Flash microwave sintering of alumina
نویسندگان
چکیده
Conventional flash sintering is difficult to adapt ceramics with a very low electrical conductivity like pure alumina. Alternatively, the latter can be heated by microwave/matter interaction due dielectric losses. Microwave energy also preferable as it allows rapid contactless and volumetric heating that initiated susceptors. This work presents assembly designed for this purpose using 2.45 GHz single-mode microwave cavity original of susceptors made from silicon carbide plates 3D printed zirconia crucible. Controlled thermal cycles ranging 300 900 K/min were successfully applied while measuring shrinkage during sintering. Alumina pieces sintered up 93–98 % in mere seconds, depending on rates, microstructures discussed according “flash” conditions originally applied.

The need to move large volumes of highly abrasive materials, such as coal, grain, sand, and various waste products, places great demands on the piping systems through which they are conveyed. Excessive wear is a common problem, especially evident in the sections of pipe, which change the direction of flow of the abrasive material. . Due to their excellent wear characteristics, ceramic materials...

The results of a study of ultra-rapid (flash) sintering of oxide ceramic materials under microwave heating with high absorbed power per unit volume of material (10-500 W/cm³) are presented. Ceramic samples of various compositions-Al₂O₃; Y₂O₃; MgAl₂O₄; and Yb(LaO)₂O₃-were sintered using a 24 GHz gyrotron system to a density above 0.98-0.99 of the theoretical value in 0.5-5 min without isothermal...

متن کاملMicrowave Sintering of Aluminum Alloys
Until 2000 almost all research in the microwave sintering area was confined to non-metallic materials. However, after the first report by Penn State in 1999 on full sintering of steel powders in microwave, now in the last few years there has been increasing interest in applying microwave energy for processing of variety of metallic materials. The present study is an extension of this work and r...
